Speakers Include: 


Carol Fishman Cohen is the co-founder of iRelaunch which produces career reentry programming, events and content for employers, universities, organizations and individuals.  She is also co-author of the career reentry strategy book Back on the Career Track: A Guide for Stay-at-Home Moms Who Want to Return to Work. Carol and her iRelaunch co-founder Vivian Steir Rabin are Harvard Business School graduates and relaunchers themselves; between them, they have nine kids and they each returned to work after multi-year career breaks. Their Back on the Career Track blog is featured on Yahoo! Shine (Yahoo’s women’s portal) and they are regularly featured in the national press. Carol’s return to investment firm Bain Capital after 11 years out of the full time workforce is documented in a Harvard Business School case about professional career reentry.

 


 

Lauren Celano is co-founder & CEO of  Propel Careers, a life science search and career development firm engaged across all areas of life sciences, including therapeutics, medical devices, healthcare IT, diagnostics, consulting and investment banking. Prior to Propel Careers, Lauren was a senior account manager for SNBL USA where she worked with emerging biotech companies in Europe, Asia, and the US to help characterize and advance their drug molecules. Prior to SNBL USA, she held business development positions with Aptuit and Quintiles, where she focused on IND enabling studies to advance therapeutics from discovery into the clinic.  Earlier in her career, Lauren held positions as a marketing manager and account manager at Absorption Systems, where she was responsible for managing life sciences companies in the northeastern United States. She has a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Gettysburg College and an MBA with a focus in the health sector and entrepreneurship from Boston University.

 


 

Joanne Kamens, Ph.D., is Director of Discovery at RXi Pharmaceuticals, a discovery-stage biopharmaceutical company. Prior to this, she spent 15 years at BASF Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA, which became Abbott Bioresearch Center in 2001. While at Abbott, she led discovery research projects on small molecule and antibody approaches to immunological and inflammatory diseases serving finally as a Group Leader in Molecular Biology. Joanne has been raising awareness of women scientists since 1998 upon realizing that an entire week had gone by at work and not one other woman had been at any meeting she attended. Joanne founded the current Boston chapter of AWIS (the Association for Women in Science) and is now serving on the national AWIS chapters committee. She is a member of the Board of Directors at WEST, a member of the HBA (Healthcare Business Women’s Association) Mentoring Committee and is an active Mentornet.net participant. Joanne received a Ph.D. in Genetics from Harvard Medical School's Division of Medical Sciences, and is the 2010 winner of the Catalyst Award from Science Club for Girls.

 

Yael Schwartz, PhD, is Founding CEO & President of Hygeia Therapeutics, a pharmaceutical company developing biodegradable hormone-receptor modulators. Yael has over 20 years combined experience in both drug development and academic research.  Prior to Hygeia Therapeutics, she held positions of increasing responsibility at Sepracor where she had direct responsibility for the pharmacology content of numerous drugs. The earlier part of her career included stints at both Parexel International and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute where she worked on cardiovascular medications and cancer therapeutics, respectively. Over the course of her career, five of the drugs she helped to discover and develop obtained FDA approval and are currently used in clinical practice. She is the author of numerous publications and has been an adjunct faculty member in Physiology and Immunology at WPI & Mass College of Pharmacy-Worcester. Yael studied toxicology at Northeastern University and, subsequently, obtained her PhD in endocrine physiology from a collaborative program between WPI and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She conducted post-doctoral work in both endocrinology and immunology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.


 


Barbara Carter (moderator) has over 20 years experience in senior human resources leadership positions in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, and currently runs a consulting practice providing advice to senior management teams. Clients have included:  bluebird bio (formerly Genetix Pharmaceuticals), Taligen Therapeutics, Virdante Pharmaceuticals, Flexion Therapeutics, Taris Biomedical and T2 BioSystems. Prior to this, Barbara was Vice President, Human Resources and Public Relations at TransForm Pharmaceuticals which was recognized as a “Best Places to Work” by The Scientist magazine for 8 consecutive years (’02 – ’09). Prior to that, Barbara was Assistant Vice President, Human Resources, at Genetics Institute. She was a founding member of the Biotechnology Human Resources Senior Leadership Forum, a founding member of the Human Resources Committee of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council, and is a charter member of the BioMedical Sciences Career Project (BSCP), working to develop programs to encourage under-represented minorities to consider careers in medicine and science.
