WEST BOARD CHAIR SANDRA GLUCKSMAN

WINS "WOMEN TO WATCH" AWARD

BOSTON – Sandra Glucksmann PhD, Chairperson of the WEST Board of Directors and Senior Vice President of Research and Business Operations at Cerulean Pharma, was named today by Mass High Tech Newspaper as one of its 2009 top 10 women executives from New England who excel in technological innovation, entrepreneurship and community involvement.   She will be honored with the other leaders in their fields at the 6th Annual “Women to Watch” Awards.

The publication, working with an advisory panel drawn from some of the region’s leading academic and business institutions, selected the 2009 honorees, who exemplify the best and brightest among women at the highest level of technology businesses in New England.
The 10 women will be recognized in an evening gala at the Charles Hotel, One Bennett St., Cambridge, on Thursday, March 12, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The women are being honored for their outstanding dedication to technology, entrepreneurship, lifelong learning and civic responsibility.


Sandra has been an active member of WEST for over seven years, and a member of the Board of Directors for six years.  Sandra is committed to the helping women advance their careers and has played a very active role in mentoring technical women in the Boston community. In addition to serving as Chair of the Board of Women Entrepreneurs in Science and Technology, she is also a member of the Genetics Advisory Council of the Harvard-Partners Center for Genetics and Genomics, and serves on Board of Directors of Taconic Farms.

Prior to joining Cerulean, Sandra spent 13 years at Millennium Pharmaceuticals which she joined as one of its first scientists and then held a series of positions with increasing responsibilities. Her division played an integral role in the numerous Millennium-large pharma collaborations, which generated over $1.8 billion in funding for the company. Sandra was a post-doctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds a Ph.D. with honors from the University of Chicago.
