If you would like to serve on a board, are already on a board, or work with a board, join us for Get on Board! The panelists are directors of both for-profit and nonprofit organization boards, and will address issues relating to service as directors, including the combinations of skills and experiences that boards are seeking, how to best position yourself for nonprofit or for-profit board candidacy, resources available to help you identify and take advantage of both paid and volunteer board opportunities, what it’s like to serve as a director on a board, and issues particular to women on boards.

Nancy Brooks
Nancy Brooks is a business development consultant who helps individuals and organizations win and retain business. She conducts business-building bootcamps, coaching and training serving as a marketing thought partner and “strength” coach. Previously, Nancy spent 20 years in financial services sales and relationship management at State Street Corporation and Putnam Investments where she was known for transforming customers into raving fans. Nancy is also a consulting Partner with Social Venture Partners, a venture philanthropy group helping Boston-area non profits build capacity, including board governance. She is a Trustee of Suffield Academy, an educational institution in Suffield, CT and is a member of its Development (Chair) and Investment Committees. She has served on other boards and councils but currently enjoys advising boards on best practices and board member responsibilities. Nancy graduated from Boston College with a degree in Finance. Allene Diaz
Allene Diaz has served as the Senior Vice President of Global Commercial Development and Program Strategy at TESARO since May 2015. Prior to her tenure at TESARO, Ms. Diaz spent 7 years at EMD/Merck Serono, divisions of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany in a variety of roles. She served as Senior Vice President, U. S. Managed Markets where she was responsible for over a $1.5 billion dollars in contracted sales of EMD Serono products. Previously, she was Senior Vice President, Head of U.S. Oncology Commercial and prior to that, she served as Vice President, Oncology Marketing. She also spent time as the Head of Global Strategic Planning, Oncology and as the Head of the Global Oncology Business Unit for Merck Serono responsible for driving sales of Erbitux. Ms. Diaz has held management positions at several leading biopharmaceutical companies, including Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Biogen, Pfizer and Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals. Ms. Diaz has contributed to the launch and/or commercialization of multiple global brands throughout her career including Zejula®, Bydureon®, Rezulin®, Rituxan®, and Erbitux®. Ms. Diaz earned her Bachelor of Science from Florida State University.
Halley Gilbert
Halley Gilbert, ESQ. is Senior Vice President & Chief Legal Officer at Ironwood Pharmaceuticals, Inc. She joined Ironwood in 2008 as the founding member of its legal department, establishing the company’s legal and compliance functions as Ironwood grew from a privately-held, research-based organization to a publicly-traded, fully-integrated commercial biotechnology company. Ms. Gilbert has two decades of experience navigating biopharmaceutical companies through transformational change, as well as expertise in corporate development, corporate governance, and the operational and legal issues relevant to launching new medicines into specialty and primary care markets. Ms. Gilbert serves on the board of directors of Achaogen, Inc. and is a member of Achaogen’s Audit, Nominating & Governance, and Transaction Committees. Ms. Gilbert also serves on the boards of directors of Allergy Amulet, Inc., Greater Boston Legal Services, and is on the Advisory Board of Life Science Cares. Ms. Gilbert is also the Chair of the General Counsel Committee of BIO. Ms. Gilbert holds a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law and a B.A. from Tufts University. Full Bio
Danielle Lauzon
Danielle Lauzon is a partner in Goodwin Procter LLP’s Technology Companies & Life Sciences Group. Danielle’s representation of start-up and later stage companies spans the entire corporate life cycle, including formation matters, general corporate representation and counseling, venture capital financings, public offerings and mergers and acquisitions. Her clients are in the life sciences, software and healthcare information technology services industries. Prior to joining Goodwin Procter in 2005, Danielle was an associate in the Business Practice Group at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault in Boston. Danielle is a member of the Massachusetts and Boston Bar Associations. Danielle holds a J.D. from Villanova University School of Law (magna cum laude, Order of the Coif) and a B.A. from the University of Michigan. Danielle is on the WEST Board and she chairs the Governance/Finance Committee.
Marian Nakada
Marian is Vice President, Venture Investments at Johnson & Johnson Innovation – JJDC Inc. and is based in Boston. She focuses on pharmaceutical investments in East Coast companies that are in areas of strategic interest to Johnson & Johnson. Marian previously held roles at Centocor R&D, Janssen R&D, and Janssen Business Development. She has a BA in Biology from Harvard College and a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Pennsylvania. Marian was the JJDC investor for CoStim Pharmaceuticals, Rodin Therapeutics, PhaseBio, and Padlock Therapeutics and currently sits on the Board of Navitor Pharmaceuticals, Artizan Therapeutics, Twentyeight-Seven Therapeutics, the New England Venture Capital Association as well as the non-profit InnerCity Weightlifting.
